The technics of manufacturing of the Calabrian goldsmith production are difficult to isolate and to distinguish because, on the contrary of the other regions, the identity of the product of this area consists in the mixture, superposition, harmonious synthesis of more elements. The art goldsmith has suffered considerable influences from the alternation of the different populations, and, therefore, of usages, costumes, religions that since old days, in the various period of history follow one another leaving always an indelible trace in the tradition of this land. Today it doesn’t exist an handicraft devoted, exclusively, to the production-marketing of popular’s jewels, or classicals, or the Greek-Roman or Byzantine tradition. The handicraft makes and gratifies all the type of consumer’s necessity, included that ecclesiastical-religious. Such as it isn’t possible to isolate clearly the typology of jewels, if we look at the local goldsmith’s tradition. Calabrian’s jeweller, is united tightly to the usages, costumes, traditions of the people , in every period of its history, independently from the social class and from the economic possibilities. The fixed starting point is composed of materials such as: gold, silver, pearls, mother of pearl, coral, onyx, cornelian, amethyst, enamel, paste glassy. From this wise mixture of basics elements, harmoniously gathered with wonderful plays of dark-light, originates the Calabrian’s jewel that by now is one of the most requested too on the international market. |
